What Does Money Really Have To Do With It?

In public schools, money plays a big role in the class room and social aspects of the school. Students are treated differently if they come from a low-income family by their peers and often teachers as well. Schools that are located in low income areas also get viewed differently when all students should be learning the same in every school. Students should be able to go to school and enjoy their learning experience and not have to worry about how they might be treated by their peers and teachers that day just because of how much money they have. These issues are out of the students hands and should not be judged for it. Money within a school system and even the income of the students household has a lot to do with the value of their education when it really should not even be a factor. Schools in a high income area potentially get funds from families within the school which increases the amount of resources they have access to and the overall quality of their education. Unfortunately, money has a lot to do with it and the diversity of schools can either hurt or help the education system depending on where the school is located and the income of the households. Every school should take a deeper loom into their students and how they are being treated based on situations that are out of their hands, schools should focus on equality in the classroom and providing a fair and quality education to all students.

Marginalized Students in Public Schools

Marginalized Students in Public Schools       When discussing the topic of marginalized students, we mean students who are defined by their race, gender, geographical location, etc. (Module 2 Introduction) These students are placed in the margins or the outside of the “normal” social and educational hierarchy. Often, we find students of the same gender, race, geographical location, etc. being friends with one another instead of intertwining with the other students that may be different than them. Whether it be a fear of judgment or just different values or hobbies, these students may not cross paths even though they attend the same public school and receive the same education. Students who are pushed into the margins, are not looking to be treated differently than the students who are the social norm, they just want to be treated equally. As humans and future educ...

What lengths am I willing to go to in order to do right by every child?

What Lengths Am I Willing To Go To In Order To Do Right By Every Child? In order to do right by every child, teachers must educate themselves of different cultures and values and be able to step out of their comfort zone to make sure they are correct with their teaching and how they act in the classroom to make students of different cultures and background comfortable in the classroom. As an educator it is important to take time to consider students identities and be able to create a culturally responsive classroom environment. Equity in the classroom is important to ensure everyone gets equal opportunities whatever the circumstances are for each student. Creating a sense of diversity In the classroom is very important as well so that the students can learn about their peers and their cultures along with sharing their own. This is something the teacher would have to take upon themselves to promote within their classroom and have a passion for their students o...
How Does Gender Affect The Teaching Profession?      Today as we walk through halls of schools K-12th grade, we typically see female educators. Women have historically been known to fill the role of an educator, but now, there has been an increase in male educators within schools. More middle school to high school level, you will see male teachers, yet in all levels of education it is not rare to see a male hold an assistant principal or principal position, even most school board positions are filled by men. At times, men being in higher positions than women in the eduction system can affect the way the educators interact with the students and how the materials are taught. I believe if the typical roles were switched, where there were more women in higher valued positions, the teachers would be taug...
